A good optician can perform a professional eye examination en therefore a suitable eyeglass prescription. At Optiek Ninon all our trained eye examiners determine an accurate prescription.

The exterior of the eyes can be examined by a optician or contacts specialist. However if there are any complications on the interior of the eye another specialist is required. At Optiek Ninon we offer both services with our in-house Optometrist and our limited waiting times.

The Optometrist looks further!

The Optometrist is a paramedical qualification, which means that they perform medical procedures in their field but is not quite a doctor or dentist.

Optometry is a science that uses eye tests to determine possible deviations in the eyes. An Optometrist excludes possible medical causes for visual impairments and prescribes corrective glasses or contacts or other optical products if needed. An Optometrist can also advise on possible visual therapy and exercises. If there is a pathological cause for the visual impairment then the Optometrist shall report and/or refer to a doctor or ophthalmologist. In relation to a Optician an Optometrist is a higher qualification.

Reasons for Optometric examination:

  • Regular headaches

  • Inconsistent eyesight during the day, tiredness of the eyes or double vision

  • Painful eyes, light flashes

  • High Blood pressure, diabetes, use of medication that can affect the eyes.

  • Visual impairments in the family (i.e. glaucoma, retina complications)

  • Not able to get accustomed to multifocal glasses, complications with a recent pair of glasses

  • Red eyes or dry eyes (teary eyes)

  • Problems with contacts
